Richard and I got a wonderful Christmas present this year from our parents! We went on a long weekend vacation to Key Largo. We flew out late Thursday night and spent the night in Fort Lauderdale. Friday morning we woke up and drove to the Everglades for an airboat tour. We saw quite a few alligators! After that we headed south to Key Largo. The hotel we stayed at was really nice and had a mini beach for its guests that we hung out on some during our trip.
Saturday we drove to Key West. Suppose to only take us 1.5 hours, but took us 3 hours due to a Ragnar Relay race from Miami to Key West. I can't believe those teams ran 200 miles! In Key West, we stopped at mile marker 0, the southernmost point in the continental US, Margaritaville for lunch, and saw the sunset.
Sunday morning we went snorkeling at Coral Reef State park. It is the only coral reef in the United States. The water was pretty cold so they recommended wetsuits. That's right, I got in a wetsuit while pregnant. They don't make maternity wetsuits! :) The coral and fish we beautiful. We had a waterproof video camera and got some good video. After that we went back to the hotel to sit by the beach before dinner. We went to a place all the locals recommended called the Fish House for dinner. It was pretty good, but definitely not good enough for the $$ we spent. The key lime pie was amazing though!
Monday we headed back up to Fort Lauderdale for our adventure home. It was great to get away just the two of us, but we sure did miss our little boy!
